What is a VPN for?
What the provider will see when connected to a VPN:
- The provider will see the connection to the VPN server, but will not know what exactly you are doing on the network, since the information will be encrypted
- The provider will be able to see that data is coming from the user to the VPN server, but he will not be able to track the further route of the data packets
- The provider will see the volume of received and sent information, but not its content.
- Connection time: The provider will see when you are connected to the Internet and logged out.
- VPN Protocols and Ports: The provider will understand that a VPN is being used because it will use the ports and protocols that are typical for VPNs.
Naturally, VPN does not guarantee 100% anonymity on the network, but it provides a high degree of protection and confidentiality of information. The provider will be able to understand that you are using a VPN, but what exactly you do, where you go, what you download, etc., he will no longer be able to track.
It is important to understand that the provider does not store all the traffic, but redirects it to the SORM servers (technical means of operational-search measures), which are under the control of the FSB and the Ministry of Internal Affairs. However, due to the large amount of traffic, it can be assumed that the storage period of data on these servers is not so long.
